Minerville Auction! June 16-17, 2008 |

Minerville History
The Fort Madison, Farmington & Western Railroad and Minerville is a privately owned full-size historic railroad and village. Dave Miner conceived and built a pre World War II country railroad and town as it could have looked in this era as a hobby.
Beginning with nothing but the abandoned roadbed of the original FMF&W chartered in 1869 (tracks taken up in 1968), all tracks and buildings were built or moved in by the owner (literally) during the period 1990-1996. All rolling stock was trucked to the property since there is no outside rail connection.
The railroad operated for 25 weekends per year for 5 years and held several special event weekends in subsequent years. The operation was wildly successful - to the point that the Miners grew tired of the long hours “just for fun”. Tens of thousands of visitors road the trains and experienced Minerville. A great group of volunteers ran the operation authentically and we are forever indebted to them for helping make Dave’s dream come true. |

Minerville Future!
Minerville, in part, will live on! The Lee County Fair, Donnellson, Iowa, has accepted the donation of some of Minerville’s buildings. They will become part of the Fair’s interpretive village.
The historic Viele one-room schoolhouse complete with desks and stove will be moved to the fair as will the General Store and Print Shop. The Print Shop is being donated with all of the printing equipment intact so the Fair will be able to demonstrate letterpress printing! |
